How a League Two Attacker Became The Most Prolific Striker In Europe

Uninspiring Beginnings: We all love great youth talent, but few have seen the generational stardom of none other than Vicktor Gykores. We will be presenting a deep dive into his early beginnings to super stardom starting now. Gyokeres made his professional debut for Swedish side Brommapojkarna in 2015, marking his first professional match played for a professional team, he quickly rose the ranks as the best player in the club, scoring 13 goals in his debut season, helping them achieve promotion many times. He then became a youth prospect for several teams, but ended up joining the English side Brighton in the Premier League. At Brighton, he only played a miniscule 4 games at the club before going on loan to several different clubs including Swansea City, St Pauli in Germany and initially at Coventry. He eventually signed a permanent deal with Coventry, and the entire world thought that was the end of a great youth talent. The Signing That Changed Everything: Quite quickly, Gyokeres became the club's best player by far, tearing up League two defenders like butter. Just look at these stats from his time at Coventry: 38 goals in 91 matches, nearly carrying the Sky-Blues to the Premier League. However, on a fateful day in the midst of another awe-inspiring Gyokores season, Gyokeres signed a five-year contract with Primeira Liga side Sporting CP, who paid a club record transfer fee of €20 million (plus €4 million in bonuses) for him. Coventry also reserved 10 to 15% from a future transfer, and the release clause was set at €100 million. The deal was a quiet one, as it was in the midst of Man City’s historic treble winning season, (being the only one to achieve it in the premier league besides Alex Ferguson’s groundbreaking 1999 team.) Gyokeres went off to sporting and all was normal until he started to gel in the team. Stardom at Sporting: Gyokeres’s debut season silenced all the doubts in people saying that his transfer was a waste. 43 goals in 50 games, along with being one of the most prolific strikers to grace the pitch this season, he also helped Sporting snag that all elusive league title, snatching it from rivals Porto and Benfica. In his current season, he currently has 24 goals in only 21 games. He is, at the moment, helping Sporting to a second consecutive league title, with them being 3 points and 2 points ahead of rivals Porto and Benfica respectively. He was again a hat-trick hero in a hyped up fixture in the Champions League; with them facing English champions Manchester City. He was integral in their 4-1 thrashing of the champions with him scoring a hat-trick as mentioned above. (A hat-trick is three goals in one game) He is currently regarded as the most dangerous striker in Europe. However, people tend to forget that only two years earlier he was playing for middling League Two team Coventry. Gyokores’s Future: Obviously, more than one great team in Europe has approached Sporting about their prodigiously talented number 9. Right now, the current candidates for his signing are Arsenal FC and Manchester United. PSG recently dropped out of the race for the nine, with these two top tier English clubs currently racing for his signature. We expect him to develop racingly at a different club, but if he chooses to stay, he will still be highly coveted. The Swedish striker is in talks with Ruben Amorim, the former Sorting manager who seems to think he can snatch his former crown jewel from under Arsenal’s nose. With the rocky start to the English top-flight teams season, the signing of him could greatly improve the ambitious project at the club. Arsenal is also in need of a great number nine, and as with Man United, it would greatly improve the club. Wherever Gyokeres goes, he will be a deadly striker that puts up insane numbers day in and day out for whatever club he joins.
